How I Started

It was a rough and lonely December in 1996 when I was contemplating whether to continue in corporate America or go out on my own. With a background in marketing from corporate America, the first domain name I registered was a marketing website "netpromotions.com" on December 3, 1996.

My initial goal was to take traditional "brick and mortar businesses and introduce them to the internet. In the beginning there was only one way to register a domain name; network solutions, AOL was the main internet provider, and netscape was the dominant web browser and search engine. I created my first website using a program from Adobe called Pagemill which still sits on my bookshelf today. Over the last 22 years, I’ve accumulated a vast amount of knowledge and resources that I now share with my clients.

Using my current yellow pages as a guide, I built my first website as a directory, and listed those business in this directory under their proper category. I offered basic test only listings and for people that wanted to stand out, I created nice attractive logos and banners. I started building websites under the netpromotions.com name for a few years but quickly found out that people really couldn't find my web design services under the name netpromotions. I decided to expand my design business into a separate division and opened affordable web sites. Before choosing this name, I did my own research of how many times a person searched for a variety of different keywords. Yes, I was thinking ahead.

How I Make It Affordable?

I don't have any frills (like a fancy office, toll free number, excessive staff, etc.), I closed my original brick and mortar office in 2003. In addition, I do not have thousands of clients; I only accept the amount of clients that my staff can handle. A Summary Of My Tools Are Listed Here

Start With an Affordable Domain Name

The technical term for a domain name is A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name. Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet. In 2017, 330.6 million domain names had been registered.

Picking a domain name is extremely important, it's advisable that you choose a name that follows these basic rules:

  1. A domain name that reflects on what you do.
  2. A domain name that contains keywords related to your industry that people may search for.
  3. A domain name that you can recite in passing in the mall without complications.

Introducing Affordable Web Sites

I registered the domain affordablewebsites.net on May 14, 1999 and expanded my internet services to include website design and development. I took this website from its infancy when “netscape” was a dominant search engine, all the way to the top of google, yahoo and bing search engines. I still have every version of this website in archive.

I've learned from the failure and success of others. Every member in our chain enjoys what he or she does, which reduces turnover and eliminates mistakes. Just tell us what you want and we'll make it affordable.

How I Make It Affordable?

I accomplish this by investing in continuous training, professional tools and services. I choose my clients and vendors carefully. i've streamlined my systems and billing processes to spend my time designing and not on bookkeeping.

I don't have any frills (like a fancy office, toll free number, excessive staff, etc.), I closed my original brick and mortar office in 2003. In addition, I do not have thousands of clients; I only accept the amount of clients that my staff can handle. About My Rates

Since no two projects are the same, my initial FREE consultation will will tell me what type of server to use, how much disk space you need, what type (if any) eCommerce solution is best for you and so much more. I'll match your needs with the tools and services necessary to effectively produce a winning formula.

In addition, I've learned from the failure and success of others. Every member in our chain enjoys what he or she does, which reduces turnover and eliminates mistakes. Just tell me what you want and we'll make it affordable. Through this website, I’m making my entire services available and will share some of my knowledge.

Remember, no two designers are alike and don't judge a designer by his/her hourly rate. For example, I had a company offer to assist me with web design, charging only $20 an hour. I asked them to get me a quote on a simple project that I had completed, but wanted to see if it was cost effective to have them redo it. They advised me that it would take 40 hours to complete an upgrade.

I charge $60 an hour, but that same upgrade would only take 5 hours to complete. You can clearly see that a lower hourly rate does not always compute to a more economical rate. An experienced designer may charged a little more hourly rate, but always ask how much time a project will take, that's the bottom line.

My Web Blog

I have a web blog that I use to keep my clients informed and provides a wealth of self help stuff that can be used to solve simple issues. In addition, you can learn about design, marketing, hosting, security and much more.

Although WordPress is now being used for complete web design and content management systems, I still use it as it's original purpose. Being a designer, these online editors are not my first choice, but I am not against using them just like a landscaper is not against you owning and using a lawnmower.
